Everton have made it into the group stage of the Europa League.

European football nights will continue at Goodison Park for a few months at least...No, I'm going to be optimistic... Everton will play a series of matches against Lyon, Atalanta and Apollon Limassol over the next few months, before sweeping all other teams aside to win the Europa League at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais in Décines-Charpieu, France, next May...

It was hard to watch yesterday's match between Hajduk Split and Everton. Hajduk Split got a goal and I was gnawing at my wooden chews until Everton equalised.

Then Hajduk Split were awarded a penalty...I almost dived for my den and tried to hide under my pile of kapok. But I forced myself to watch...OK, so it wasn't a great penalty, but Jordan Pickford is a hero. What a save! And Everton's other expensive new signing got a goal to make the result 1 - 3 on aggregate...I could relax again...

Did you know that on this day in 1894, Japanese scientist Shibasaburo Kitasato discovered the bacterium that causes bubonic plague...I still blame the rats. They give rodents a bad name.
