Cinco de Mayo

05-May-2017 | Milku

It's fiesta time...but no Ford cars involved.

If you’re having a Cinco de Mayo celebration, I hope you enjoy it. For those who aren’t immersed in Mexican history, today is the 155th anniversary of the Mexican Army's victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla.

Now we’re in the middle of Brexit negotiations, perhaps we can legitimately side with the Mexicans rather than our European neighbours. So I’m dreaming of getting a scrap of tortilla or nacho tonight… but will probably be disappointed.

I’ve heard that Mexicans in the United States will enjoy a glass or two of tequila today. Perhaps there’ll be a few pictures in the media. While you’re perusing US news sites, you might spot a rather good looking hamster in the pet gallery of the WRAL.com site

No mention on WRAL of the local elections we had in Britain yesterday. Probably they weren't interested because there weren't any opportunities to vote in Blackpool. We've got to wait until the General Election in June.

Still, the campaign for animals to be allowed to exercise their democratic rights has started. Fudge, the rabbit arrived at a polling station in Chorlton, Manchester yesterday. Not such a clever leader for our cause though. He hadn't brought his polling card... no pouches to carry it in you see. I don't know why those silly bunnies don't realise their limitations and let hamsters take the lead.
