Roughlee Lake and surrounding pleasure grounds on Wednesday resounded with the laughter of happy children and, apparently, equally happy adults. The children, numbering about 160 in all, were accompanied by about 66 grown ups and they made up a big party visiting ‘The Lake’ from Waterloo Road Methodist Church, Blackpool. They made the journey in five motor coaches. The rowing boats, swings and Shetland ponies all did brisk business, and those who had not previously visited this beauty spot and pleasure ground considered it ‘marvellous’.
