1934 newspaper cutting about the first mass at St John Vianney's Church

The Catholic community of Marton, Blackpool, numbering over 2,000, have almost come to the end of years of endeavour to provide themselves with a place of worship for their families and a day school for their children. On Sunday they will attend at the £22,000 church and day school, which has just been built, for the first public Mass to be held early in the morning.

Father Francis Moah, whose brother is at St. Cuthbert’s, Lytham-road, Blackpool, has been appointed parish priest. He was formerly in a similar position at St. Herbert's. Windermere, where he is succeeded by Father Gore, of St. Annes. For several years Father Moah was curate at St. Mary’s, Fleetwood, and prior that was curate at St. Augustine's, Preston, for 9½ years, during which time he was prison chaplain.

The day school, to accommodate 400 scholars, is expected to be opened in September.
