Title: New Blackpool Mission - Opening by Bishop Pearson To-morrow

1934 newspaper cutting about the opening of St John Vianney's Church

Dr. Pearson, Bishop of Lancaster, will open the new mission at Marton, Blackpool, to-morrow (Sunday).

A church and school are to be built on the site. The school will be opened on September 1, and for the present the school hall will be used as a place of worship.

This is very necessary, for the only other church in South Shore -St. Cuthbert's, Lytham Road — has been overcrowded for many months. The school of St. Cuthbert's has been overcrowded for some years. The new school will provide not only an elementary education, but will also be a senior school. It will be known as St. John Vianney School, after St. John Vianney, who was canonised last year. The cost so far has been £24,000. This includes £18,000 for the school building and £2,500 for the land.
