- On 2 June 1933, The Bishop of Lancaster (Dr. J. W. Pearson) laid the foundation stone of a new Catholic school at Marton which was to become the nucleus of a new mission, cut off from St. Cuthbert’s Church.
- First public mass at St. John Vianney's took place on 1 July 1934.
- Opening of the new mission dedicated to St. John Vianney by Dr. Pearson, Bishop of Lancaster, on 15 July 1934.
- Ground breaking ceremony for the new church of St. John Vianney, led by the Bishop of Sinda, Dr. T. B. Pearson, on 21 July 1957.
- Building completed for the church of St. John Vianney.
