St John Vianney Church - Key Dates

  1. On 2 June 1933, The Bishop of Lancaster (Dr. J. W. Pearson) laid the foundation stone of a new Catholic school at Marton which was to become the nucleus of a new mission, cut off from St. Cuthbert’s Church.
  2. First public mass at St. John Vianney's took place on 1 July 1934.
  3. Opening of the new mission dedicated to St. John Vianney by Dr. Pearson, Bishop of Lancaster, on 15 July 1934.
  4. Ground breaking ceremony for the new church of St. John Vianney, led by the Bishop of Sinda, Dr. T. B. Pearson, on 21 July 1957.
  5. Building completed for the church of St. John Vianney.
