The Preston Chronicle and Lancashire Advertiser on 11th April 1874 contained the following article:
Wesleyan Sabbath School, Blackpool – The annual sermons in aid of the funds of the above school were preached in the chapel on Sunday by the Rev. E Oldfield. In the afternoon an address was delivered in the school room by Mr R Johnson, of Manchester. The children sang several hymns during the afternoon. Mr T Watson officiated as conductor, and Mr Carter as accompanist. The collections made at the services amounted to £21 12s 7d.
